About Us
Leeds Heritage Theatres is a registered charity united by a single cause; to bring people together, create the extraordinary and provide a positive environment in which to entertain and educate.
Our venues
Leeds Grand Theatre
The most magnificent of leading ladies, the ‘Grand Old Lady of Leeds’ has been entertaining audiences since 1878 with the best of the day’s cultural entertainment.
Today, she plays host to the best of the West End and other touring productions, alongside opera and ballet from resident companies Opera North and Northern Ballet.
City Varieties Music Hall
Established in 1865 as a room above a pub for the working class, The Varieties is Leeds’ hidden gem – and the Guinness World Record holder for the nation’s longest running music hall.
The home of the BBC’s Good Old Days, she is still regarded as one of the UK’s finest venues for live comedy, music, variety, and Leeds’ favourite Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto.
Hyde Park Picture House
Opened in 1914, The Picture House is one of the country’s most distinctive and historic cinemas; harking back to a golden age when single screen picture palaces could be found at the heart of every community.
She is now the home of Independent film in Leeds, boasting a diverse programme, from foreign language films to family favourites.

What we do is not just about our rich past or lively present; it’s about our future and the next generation of audiences, artists and professionals. That’s why we put young people at the heart of the city’s artistic life.
Across our three venues, our Learning and Engagement programme creates safe places to learn, have fun and experience the magic of theatre and film.

Where creativity thrives and stories unfold.
Mission
We bring people together through vibrant, creative experiences that cross artforms, spark ideas and celebrate shared stories. Across our historic venues, we welcome artists and communities to create, collaborate and discover new possibilities. At our core is a commitment to developing skills, widening access and a sustainable future. With openness, care and curiosity, we champion work that is inclusive, adventurous, and rooted in the cultural heartbeat of Leeds. Our programmes resonate locally, across the UK and around the world.
Vision
Leeds Heritage Theatres will be a hub of creativity, celebrating the work of local, national and international artists and the human connection of arts and culture. Our work will be underpinned by excellence, skill, inclusivity, collaboration, learning and generosity, and will be visible at home in Leeds but regionally, nationally and virtually. Our physical and digital sites will be places of congregation, engagement, excitement and welcome. We will always be future-facing and outwards-facing, whilst recognising our heritage and our history.

Creativity: We push boundaries, embrace imagination, and spark new ideas to inspire and transform every aspect of our work.
Integrity: We act with honesty and accountability. We make ethical decisions, maintain transparency, and build trust in every action and interaction.
Inclusivity: We remove barriers and create spaces where all voices are heard, valued, and empowered to create, lead and belong.
